My Dad and Drones

Doh, Drone!

Viggo with Drone 2

I crashed my drone. I was flying crazy. I impacted a cruise ship, or it impacted my drone. $1400 down into the oceans depths. When I knew it was over, my heart was beating so fast. It was like losing a child. Lesson learned: don’t take risks. I hate that lesson.

Dad

Dad, Me, Giovanni

My Dad came to visit: We had such a good time. The first night me, Giovanni, and my Dad went out to SugarCane Bar and Grill, had a few drinks and rapped about life. My Dad really enjoyed Giovanni’s company, and me him. It was all good we had a ball of a conversation. Then to The Sylvester, introduced him to my coworkers, and played foosball. We had a lot to drink. The next day me and Dad went to the Everglades, went on a boat ride. I even dozed off on the airboat. Saw lot’s of gators. Then we returned into town in Miami. I figured I’d find a place to eat. I chose this place that’s a Dominican and Japanese infusion place. We walked thru the parking lot and there were two groups of guys with their gals barking at each other looking to take it to the next level of diplomacy: physical contact. Then we approached the front door. It was like 7pm on Sunday and this place was popping! There was like a smoke machine in the place, people were dancing, and there was a DJ. So I said to my Dad, “I’m just not feeling it.” We then went to a quiet Thai place up north on Biscayne Blvd and 80th.

Work Issues

We fuckin ran out of Ice on a Friday Nigh! And I was kinda guilty. It’s a Friday night and the Ice in the Ice making machine is getting low, so I decided to tell my supervisor but it got busy so it slipped my mind. Then suddenly I saw Rani, supervisor, getting angry with another supervisor, Derek, saying, “How did nobody notice that it was off!” I was thrilled to admit that I had seen it was approaching empty and I didn’t alert anyone. Shit sandwich, if you will.
Magaya Commercial

My roommate, Giovanni, finished the commercial for his company that he’s a videographer for. I acted in it. Here it is below. Much respect and admiration for casting me. And it was a paid gig. I love acting so I was thrilled. Blessings.

Trips to Tucson, Mom

IMG_6572

I just got back from Tucson. I was there to visit my Mom. She’s almost like an invalid. She can barely do anything. Even talk. I wonder how much of her brain is functioning normally. Possibly her brain is normal but her physical body is almost non functional. And seeing all this reminds me of my own destiny. Everyone’s destiny. I’ve gotten used to it. We went out both nights I was there. Two different restaurants that serve sushi, because she has no teeth and can’t chew. Luckily she loves sushi. I love it, too. I wanted to see my Aunt Mimi while there, but she was under the weather. She likes to drink so maybe she was just hung over. Flew my drone a few times. In random places above the city and above the party part of town, 4th street. Things have changed, for sure. But I still recognize a lot. For example Che’s Lounge, a bar I use to frequent, is still open.

“She works hard for a livin’ so you better treat her right”

Everybody treats me well at work. They look up to me, but I haven’t tried to make this happen. All I try is to work hard and earn my paycheck. But all this praise has been heaped on me and they think I’m a great worker and all the while I tend to think that I don’t do enough and that I may be fired any day. This negative perception spurs me to work harder. Not only are all the our numeral stuff conected psychologically with all many of politics, but we work in a party environment. This leads me to believe that I can take this skill higher to other rhelms, other work places. I could be a manager and manage personalities and egos.

Long Shifts

Just worked a long shift, an 11 hour shift. I was supposed to work 3 to 12, nine hours, but the other barback called in sick so I worked a double, so to speak. And we were in the weeds from hour 5pm on. It was tough, but I enjoyed it. Surprisingly at my 46 years, I never run out of energy. And the work spurs me to have more energy and go harder. I see lots of good-looking people drinking and having fun, but I’m too dialed in on work to have fun with them.

Evolving along with Roommate

Me and my roommate, ol’ Gio, had a “Meeting of The Minds” meeting on the 15th. He suggested that we do it at “Base Camp” which I was happy he suggested this. Base Camp is a new spot, about an acre of land in Little Haiti, on which are a few food trucks, stages, art exhibits, a lawn, chill spots, two bars, and a giant chess board and bathrooms. At Base Camp we went to the “Sultan’s Tent” A chill spot with lots of cushions. Honestly, it’s fabulous and it’s so good we should have to pay money to even sit there. This meeting we talked about Goals and to hold each other accountable. So I prepared a ‘power point’ presentation. It was a hit. Here’s a screenshot.

Rejection to Prosperity

Saga of Headphones

I wrote that earlier I had gone to my company’s “Friends’ Day outing.” It was at the Standard Resort Hotel. It’s on the bay and it’s one of the swankiest places in Miami. Celebrities and Professional athletes can be seen here on the reg. I saw a few when I worked there. So all of us Sylvester workers were there with the boss. A friends day. When we left I discovered that I did not have my headphones. My Apple ear pods, specifically. Everyone has them and they’re the white ones. So after, we met up at another establishment, Batch Bar and Grill. We all were sitting at a long table, I said,”Has anyone seen my headphones?” Nick replied, “Those were yours!?” He then told me the story: Laz, a brother of one of our bartenders, Chris, who is a good friend of mine, was leaving and Nick saw them on the chair and I asked him if there were his. He looked at them. Kinda was like “uuuuu?” Then he said that they were his, “You can contact him.” I did. I sent him a message and he messaged me back that he’d return them. Cool, right? Still don’t have my headphones. So, I have written them off, but I’m still going to repeatedly try to get them back. Like a social experiment on human influence.

Rejection Letter

Screen Shot 2020-02-04 at 5.40.05 AM

I just got an e-mail. A rejection letter. A while back I applied for the Federal Job, Diplomatic Courier. I felt like it would be great for a rootless rolling stone like myself. Always moving. Having no family would be acceptable. Like, I have nothing. Now another rejection. Ok, back to the drawing board. Gotta figure something out. Like, how to I succeed? I work so hard. People admire my hard attitude at work and they compliment me on how hard I work. True. And why do I do it? Why do I come in early to work and stay late? Working off the clock just a bit? Cause nobody believes in me. My job right now doesn’t pay much and the hours are long and very physical, but at least this company and the management believed in me! How do I reach success without resorting to a life of crime? The letter with a big paragraph letting me down easy like a relationship that ended. Fuck. Like, I can’t get hired anywhere except in the Service Industry as a barback or a server? Damn, what’s a nigga gotta do? Like, what the fuck?

Film Maker I am

Oh well, it looks like a gotta go film more. Drum up work or create my own content and try to sell it. Damn, I’m gunna have to work for a living! LOL. Well, I got a good film buddy as my roommate, Giovanni. This guy is animal on the camera or lights, and his editing skills are unmatched with anyone I’ve ever encountered. I’m in a golden window of film making. I have him, Stazio, and Richard. And further out, Neal, in the Bull-Pen, so to speak. Neal is a natural as an actor and always willing to help out behind the camera. My lease is out in 8 months, and at that point, I’m making a move to another country, maybe Spain, so I really want to film a major project with my buddies here. That project is Joker Inc.

Super Bowl

The Sylvester Hallway
Hallway of the secret entrance of The Sylvester

Super Bowl just passed. It took place here in Miami. My work, The Sylvester, hosted a viewing party. We’re definetely not a Sports bar so we had a lot of difficultly at the beginning. But everything smoothed out. But it was a madhouse at one point. All the customers started ordering a bunch at the beginning because it was free food for all, if they’d paid the price. And they got testy because the multitude of TV’s were function on point. Some were out of sync and some weren’t even on. Yet, we dealt with it like troopers. A few us tossed back a few shots. Our really were in the weeds and were a little snappy.

Conclusion

Focus more and work more intelligently, not just harder.

Drone

I found an incredible place to drone. The Port of Miami. There are a bunch of islands and boats scooting around, plus buildings and cranes. I’ve been putting music that I’m currently listening to my drone videos. On this one I have Steely Dan’s “Deacon Blues” A classico!

Le Petit Sink

In addition to the drone videos I’ve been working an a short comedy written by my old friend Oppie, who lives in St. Petersburg, Florida and a friend of his Quinton. We filmed it over a course of a day last time I was up there. It’s a spoof on an old black and white French film. It’s about 3 guys looking at a sink. So far the reviews have been promising. We arranged to have a guy do the music for it. Actually he’s not a random, he helped us film it. A cool cat named Andrew. We used his house for a few shots and he operated the camera, too. We saw that he had a little music studio and musical instruments so we invited him to make the music. He said sure. Now we’re still waiting. In the meantime I put music to the short film. The latest version is below.

Conclusion

Drone me to music.

Life

Life is good. I’m working 5 to 6 days at The Sylvester so money isn’t an issue. But free time is.

Sex Code
I’m listening to an audio book called “Sex Code.” The book is written by Mario Luna, a Spaniard, and it’s opening my eyes and mind to human behavior all around me. It’s all about the psychology behind the differences between men and women regarding our sexual behavior. It speaks of how the two sexes go about courtship differently. And even though the audio book is in technical Spanish with a lot of scientific terminology, I understand it! Which astonishes me after all these years. And the author speaks abstractly and in what-if’s, so it uses some verb tenses that are considered advanced Spanish.

Night Crawling

I’ve been going on bike rides through the Midtown and Wynwood neighborhoods, close to where I live. I always take my drone with me just in case there’s an unexpected event to drone. Wynwood has night spots that are open late, so there’s always action when I pass there around 2 or 3am. This is what I was doing when I got accosted by the police. Gotta watch out for them and shady characters on the streets.

Closer to filming Joker Inc.

I’ve written a few scripts but have yet to film one. I’m just not satisfied with them. I don’t think they’re funny enough. My latest creation is Joker Inc. It’s about behind the scenes at the office of the Joker’s organization. I’ve written about 5 short sitcoms.

Nlite Podcast

Below is drone footage of my friend Grant’s store called Nlite in Wynwood. We filmed his podcast there, which will be out soon.

Handcuffed and stuffed

One random night I rode my bike south about 15 blocks and flew my drone…..night flying, around tall buildings. I then proceeded to a 7-11 nearby and rode by two cop cars. They had been waiting to turn for awhile. Suddenly the cop in the front screams at me to stop and orders me against the wall. He handcuffs me and starts interrogating me. Asked me where I rode from him. “Over there” I pointed west. He barks, “Why are you lying to me!” “I’m telling the truth!” I said. Yeah, they got a report that someone matching my description was causing trouble so they collared me. This happens from time to time. It happened in Miami Beach awhile back. That’s life when there are criminals that look like you.

The Footage

The following is what I shot before being apprehended by Miami’s finest. I thought somebody had called the cops on me. But that wasn’t it. Some guy on a bicycle was doing some bad things apparently.

Conclusion
Be prepared for criminal and state attacks at all times. We’re all vulnerable.

New Year’s 2020

Indiana music video still photo
Sunrise at Bal Harbor filming the music video.

My buddy Agustin has some friends who were a semi-famous punk rock band in Madrid in the 70’s and they’re getting the band back together. And they’d like a video to go along with their new single. So Agustin asked me if’d I’d like to film it, since these guys now live here in Miami. I would and I charged them 350 dollars. We filmed at various locations. The first was on a jetty at sunrise in Bal Harbour. It was gorgeous. I bought a new drone the day before. The drone shots were superb.

My Body Taking a Beating

I’ve been working like a horse at The Sylvester. I worked two consecutive back-to-back 13 hour shifts. And the day prior to that I was working and walking taking glasses back to the bar when I stepped on a pillow that had fallen on the floor. I slipped like it was a banana peel in a cartoon. I hella banged my foot on the hard floor in order to not hit my face. After that I work my tail off on a painful foot. I was limping. And the next two days, Friday and Saturday, my helper called out sick, so it’s been rough.

Partying into 2020

Just finished the New Year’s shift. It was a blast but hard work. We busted-out 200 champagne glasses, not plastic, at midnight to the patrons. It was all private parties so it was open bar for everyone.  A madhouse. So add that to the already mountain of glassware piling up that we have to clean with one rather slow dishwasher. We don’t serve plastic. Because we’re not that type of bar. People pay to be here and drink with class. So we give them glass, even if it’s for them to sip one semi-gulp of Prosecco.

Conclusion

Work hard to cover up your deficiencies.

Work Parties and Wake Up Calls

Visit to Mom

Tucson Sign

I went to Tucson Arizona on short notice, thankfully my job let me have the days off. My Mom is not doing too well, but she’s hanging in there. She, my aunt, and me went to a Japanese restaurant. I bought some food and drinks. We had a good time. My Mom can’t drink but we could so we did. I was so happy. And Mom was happy, too. I was only there a couple of days ‘cause I had to get back to work at the Sylvester Bar.

Mom, Aunt Mimi and Me

Set back a year

I’ve been studying a lot of Portuguese to prepare for the State Department’s Consular Fellows Program Hiring process. I took the reading test and felt good I passed. I tried but wasn’t able to schedule the speaking portions. I visited the testing website every day and their response was that there were no available appointments.
And when I finally got a hold of the State Department to tell them about this problem. The called me back almost a week later and I was told that the deadline to take the tests was that very day. I missed it! All the work, studying, and waiting was for naught. Fuck! My future, or my imagination of it is totally wrecked! I don’t know what to do or think. How does my life change? How much should I whip myself?

So I continue on. I’ll apply again. It’s kinda my fault but missing the deadline wasn’t out of the question even following their instructions.

Company Get Away

Work Crew at the Standard 2
Me and the Sylvester crew at the Standard

I went to a company party day at The Standard, my old work place. And I decided to not drink. I rode my bike from my apartment to The Standard passing through various islands. All my co-workers were at the pool. We swam in the pool together, the hot tub, the Arctic Plunge, then the Hamom, a big bathhouse and steam room. It’s like a sexy James Bond movie scene.

New wallet, lost wallet

For the festivities afterwards, we all agreed to meet up at Batch Bar and Grill in Brickell. They all drove there, but I had my bike so I told them I’d meet them there. I rode and too a city bus to get there.

On the bus
On the bus to Batch in Brickell

I passed through South Beach before meeting them there. It took me awhile to get there, so I thought about cancelling because I was going to be so late that I didn’t want to hold them up. It turned out that I got there right before food was served. Man, I was just on time. After that we met up at “Better Days” a cool looking bar. It was decorated like it was the 80’s. I was elated. But let me back up. Before leaving Batch I noticed that my wallet was missing. I had just bought this wallet. It was getting stuck to my telephone so when I pulled my phone out of my pocket the wallet got pulled out, too. I hurried back to Batch on my bike and when I went in through the front door looking worried the hostess asked me if I was looking for my wallet? I said, “Yes.” The security guard had found it. I had met her already. When I had pulled up on my bike originally and tried to lock my bike up in front of Batch she told me that I couldn’t lock my bike there. She said I had to lock mine down the street. I didn’t immediately answer her so she said not so nicely, “Did you hear what I said?!” I calmly answered, “Where do I lock my bike up?” Our interaction had gone fine, but it wasn’t pleasant. I had a bad taste in my mouth and when I found out later that she found my wallet and returned it, I was moved but also kinda shocked that this person who gave off negative vibes was later shown to be an honest person. That’s a lesson to be learned.

New Youtube Channel

I’ve started a new creative endeavor. I’ve been posting drone videos to a new Youtube Channel I created. I make a point of exporting them with the least amount of editing, because with my normal projects I edit a lot…..maybe too much. Also, I just purchased a new drone, the Mavic Air 2. Superior to my older drone. I want to fly it everyday, but I’m still trying to manage my time.

Conclusion

You never know when you’ll be proven wrong. Keep an open mind always but still be skeptic.

Vice City Never Stops

The Sylvester Bar

Sylvestor Outside
The Facade of The Sylvester

We just had a record night at my job, The Sylvester Bar. It was so packed. We were so in the weeds. BTW, “In the weeds” means you’re overtasked and just fighting to keep your head above water. We were moving fast to keep up with the customers who were drinking….good clientele. They’re good looking people and with money, ‘cause our drinks ain’t cheap.

Marijuana

Every so often I smell marijuana smoke while working. Once I found the guy smoking. He was playing pool I walked over to him and told him that he had to put it out. He did calmly. Later I smelled it again, so I did the same thing again. He protested this time about to tell me something. Suddenly, my manager told me that everything is fine that he told him that he could smoke inside. Ok cool. That’s what I want to hear!

The All Important Video

I’m editing a video I shot at my squadron reunion. The reunion was truly amazing. I hadn’t seen my military buddies, or been on that base, March ARB, or any military base for that matter, since I left the military 16 years ago. A bunch of people were at the ceremony, we greeted each other very animated and happy. At times it was awkward. Then we went to the reception located outside the base on the grounds of a military museum. More people showed up. I tried to fly my drone. It wouldn’t take off because we were near an airport. So I decided to hold it in my hand and record. The gimbal still worked and stabilized the shot, so I was able to record no problem. I teamed up with a pilot I use to fly with, Joey Hoffman. He ran audio on an iphone. We walked around interviewing peeps on the fly. Sometimes we ran into old friends who weren’t at the ceremony before nor had I seen them for 16 years. But I was acting as director then, so instead of warmly greeting them, I had to be curt and business like. It was odd behavior for them to see after not seeing each other for all that time, we would have normally hugged each other happily, and my friends weren’t prepared for it. I didn’t realize this until I began editing the video and saw their reactions. I’ll post the video below.

Status Update on Film Making

Still ain’t filming enough. Not doing my Vlog like I wanted to and I thought I would continue. I’ve started writing a script for a Joker ran company web series, but I haven’t moved forward with it. I just don’t feel it’s good enough.

Stazio’s Film

Acted in the last part of Stazio’s film, “Julie” We filmed at a posh house in Hollywood. It was empty cause the owner is trying to sell it. Our female lead is an attractive young woman and her role this day required that she was completely naked for the whole shoot. She did well. And we were all professional. I did well, too. I had to masturbate on camera. Which wasn’t easy. At first I faked it, then I realized that I wasn’t selling it, so I did it for real ‘cause it had to be done. We work for the final product. That’s it, really.

Steve’s Pizza

After filming we went to Steve’s Pizza. A classic establishment. It’s a classic standard on Biscayne Blvd. Vice Media did a documentary on Biscayne Blvd and they filmed an interview at Steve’s Pizza with a legend from that neighborhood, Mickey Monday. He was an Evil Genuis drug smuggler rogue now retired, from the late 70’s early 80’s featured on Cocaine Cowboys.

My Friend Giovanni

Gio, my roommate and collaborative filmmaker friend just bought Wolfpak Images t-shirts. He’s taking the business to the next level. Mine fits fine. He keeps including me in his film projects and I’m so grateful. He doesn’t have to. And I’ve made some mistakes filming and he keeps believing in me. It makes me want to help him even more. I must admit that I’ve been thinking of leaving Miami to go abroad again. To teach English in Costa Rica or chasing my dream of living in Spain. But now I’m thinking of staying and it all has to do with Gio, a great friend and a hard-charger mover and a shaker. I admire is gumption and ambition and I want to help him reach his dreams.

A New Love

KO Zone 2

My boxing class has been going smashing. I love what I’m learning. It’s like liberating or something. It’s an art that deals with body movement and momentum and leverage. And fists. I want to take Jui jutsu next. The gym, KO Zone, is a few blocks from my apartment here in Little Haiti. The people who attend the gym all seem cool. The ones who do martial arts on the 2nd floor are possibly more cool and intriguing. I’m just getting to know them. I’ll have a better opinion on them later. The rest of the time that I’m here in the US, I want to continue studying martial arts. It could get you out of a jam real quick.

Me As an Artist

I admit that I have been drinking almost everyday. Not a lot of alcohol in a day….about 3 tall boys and a few puffs of marijuana. And then I write or edit. It’s been hard to edit even though I want to edit more often. I want to keep producing frequently, because when I do it warms my soul. It makes a difference in my life. And maybe in the lives of people who watch my films now and in the future.

Losing my Spanish?

I watched both “Abre Los Ojos” and “Vanilla Sky” Vanilla Sky is a remake of the Spanish film, Abre Los Ojos. I like them both but they are quite different. Later I arranged to meet with my friend, Patty, to discuss these films while we speak Spanish. It’s my new strategy to continue speaking Spanish. Originally, I thought Abre Los Ojos was better. It’s the original, after all. But I’ve watched them both and I’ve discovered that Vanilla Sky has a lot more layers, there’s more story lines. Vanilla Sky went further by introducing new plots that don’t change the heart of the story of the original version. And they gave you flashbacks and rapid fire images to tell a much more complex backstory and at the same time booster its cinemagraphical quality. Hats off to the original, it’s the seed, and is a must see.

Bustin’ My Balls.

I just worked a twelve hour shift, which is par for the course where I work. It’s like sweat shop work conditions, bitch. I work 12 hours, no breaks, no sitting down and I sneak something to eat in between tasks. I stay because the bar is close to where I live. I can ride my bike there and I don’t have a car. And it pays the bills. Barely. Thankfully, everyone is cool to work with and the bar provides a good environment to work in….just wish I made more money.

Girls!

I did something that I always promised myself that I’d do someday. I asked a girl out on a date. Unfortunately she was available to go out that afternoon for lunch. Now I’m thinking, should I ask her out again? Part of me wants to and part of me wants to move on. Plus, maybe she isn’t interested? Then, I should not pester her….? She’s a cute girl from Chile. Her name is Daniela. She lives a block away and sells weed. She got a lot of random tattoos, too. I met her when Gio and I went to film a T-Mobil promotional video in South Beach. Gio invited her to help out. She’s not a videographer or photographer but she was very helpful in the filming of the project, and I really got along well with her. And she’s pretty hot.

One Year After the Peace Corps

Military Reunion

I went to Southern California to attend the retirement ceremony of two ol’ military buddies: Steve-O Rodriguez and Diana Perez. I flew missions with them in the 729th airlift Squadron between the years of 1998 to 2003. Those were special years we traveled the world together in the C-141 cargo aircraft. While overseas we worked together and after work partied together and ate together. This was a unique relationship that many people never have. And it made us all very close. I hadn’t seen them nor anyone else in that squadron for 16 years. This reunion was a very big moment of my life. Not only was it fun it was like chicken soup for the soul.

Why I left the Military

I miss them a lot but it was correct for me to leave the Air Force in the first place. I was in my late twenties and early thirties and I wanted to do so much more in my life, not just the military, no matter how much I enjoyed it. Since then I’ve traveled throughout Central and South America for 2 and a half years. Taught English in China. Went to film school, where I wrote, acted, directed, and edited short films and documentaries and got a Bachelor’s Degree, worked in the Miami Beach service industry, and taught High School English in Madagascar for 2 plus years. All that I couldn’t have done if I stayed in the Military for all this time.

729th Loadmasters 2001
Me and my fellow Loadmasters, 2001. Anderson, Guzman, Labbé, Perish, Farrow, Perez, Gamache, Felix, Grau, Jacobs, and Rodriguez.

My Present Employment

I’ve been working 4 to 5 days a week at the Sylvester Bar in Midtown. The first two days I, like a mad chemist, mix spirits, fruit, sugar, salt, nuts, milk, gram crackers and other ingredients in various ways to make concoctions that the bartenders will later mix with other things to make and sell drinks. It’s tough. The 3rd and 4th days I work as a barback. It’s a constantly moving job. Constantly lifting things up, moving stuff, and cleaning and whatever the job calls for. That’s what I like and prefer, but the pay isn’t great. I will continue because the cats I work with are awesome.

Post Peace Corps Reflection

Oh well. After 2+ years in Madagascar I’m back barbacking. Didn’t the 2 years in Madagascar change me? I wanted it to. I wanted to come back a different person. Someone better. But I’m the same. Or at least I feel the same and can’t dectect the differences.

Girlfriend Status

I still don’t have a girlfriend. I want one. But I’m really hesistant to approach or broach a conversation with a girl about romantic adventures. I keep telling myself that success is right around the corner but that never arrives. How long am I going to be this optimist and wrong and instead just go out and start a relationship for better or worst. Just do it and even it turns out bad, the results will be so adventuous and that’s living!

YouTube

Started a new Youtube channel. It’s all drone shots. I’m filming so much drone shots that I want to do something with them. Maybe other people or me in the future will have a need for them.

Grandma Passing Away

My Grandmother past away, the one who started it all. In Chicago, her descendants did her funeral with pomp and military glory. Then to a restaurant for the wake. Then I dragged them out into to a parking lot in the rain, troopers all of them, to allow me to film them with the drone. I programmed it to fly around in a circle maintaining the camera’s gaze on my huddled family. Blessed my Grandmother, Elizabeth Jane Labbe Bliss. She joined the navy during World War II. She was rather stoic, responsible, and had a glass of wine every night. She loved sports and was a big Cubs fan. When I was young boy she and my Aunt Lucille taught us kids card games and we gambled with real money. Maybe she let us win from time to time. She was 97.

Laboring Away

I’ve been working a lot. Lot’s of long hours during which I bust my ass non-stop. It’s labor times ten. But I enjoy it. Don’t know if I’ll be working here, The Sylvester, for a long time, but steady as she goes. I’m the best they have at my position and they like and value me. They hired a couple of other people but they won’t make the cut. Either they’re too lazy or they don’t have the math skills (executed quickly) to do the job appropriately. Or, and this is important, the don’t have the personality.

Hurricanes and Handgranades

Hurricane Dorian was on it’s way here but it never arrived. People got ready and were preparing for the worst. Boarding up windows and buying water and gas and making a scene. I’m a little disappointed. I heard it hit around the Carolinas. When I was in Madagascar a hurricane hit Miami. Not a direct hit but it did damage. People lost power and hung out with their neighbors. I still haven’t experienced a hurricane here, but years ago a hurricane passed near Miami and we took a raft to the beach. The lifeguards wouldn’t let us take it in. But we swam anyway. Man, I got hit so hard by waves that it may have reptured an eardrum. I was toast after that swim.

Cyclone Eva

Fortunately in Madagascar a Cyclone passed over a town I was in. First my friends and I were on an island off the east coast when we caught wind that a major storm was bearing down on us and we had to fee fantasy island. We got to a safe town and the eye passed right over us. I remember it clearly. I thought the storm was over but the 2nd round was just around the corner. And it was stronger.
